Gerhard Class was my neighbor down the street in Lynn Valley when I was a kid. I am still good friends with his daughters. Thankyou for writing this piece. Do you know any more of Mr. Class’s works, history and his accomplishments and other works of his around Vancouver? I am a fan Ms. Lazarus , I love to read your stuff

Indeed, The Cannery Restaurant was another loss when they secured the port up like that.
A shame it never re-opened elsewhere.

That area of Vancouver prior to 9 11 was easily accessible and was an interesting place to walk and visit. You could start on Cardero near the Bayshore and walk along the waterfront all the way to the Second Narrows and beyond. You would need to be alert and aware of trains and trucks and port activity. Someday I would hope that the Port relocates the mission house and that sculpture to a far more accessible area. Being as the mission is still active either in the New Brighton area or ( try not to laugh) at the other end near the entrance to Stanley Park.
