In Cold Case BC, Eve Lazarus investigates long forgotten and unsolved murder cases throughout British Columbia. These include teenager Molly Justice, who was murdered on the outskirts of Victoria after taking the bus home from work, and a follow-up to the tragic 1953 Babes in the Woods story of two children found murdered in Stanley Park, whose names were revealed this year in a story broken by Lazarus herself. There’s the tale of four police officers in the 1960s who committed a string of robberies that culminated in the biggest heist in Vancouver’s history. Their reign of terror ended with one of the officers murdering his family before killing himself. Or were they all killed by someone else?
Lazarus looks at some of the province’s most intriguing missing persons cases, such as three-year-old Casey Bohun, who vanished from her bed in the middle of the night, and the Jack family of four, who left Prince George to work in a logging camp along the infamous Highway of Tears and were never seen again.
Interviews with law enforcement, forensic experts, and family and friends of the victims add new life to these historical cases, some of which date back to World War II. The book also includes some cases that have been solved, revealing the painstaking investigative work and new forensic technology that ultimately brought about closure for victims’ families.
Meticulously researched, Cold Case BC is a fascinating true crime book that reveals startling details about the province’s criminal past.

Reviews:
“If you travel with Lazarus along this dark road through cities, small towns and rural mountain highways, you’ll glimpse a portrait of British Columbia that doesn’t bear much resemblance to the glossy tourist version the province likes to present to the world,” writes the Tyee. “Instead you’ll find lonely rural roads, quiet suburban streets, strip clubs and bodies that lay undisturbed in city parks for years.”
“Great care must be taken when writing about cold cases. An author must be careful not to exploit a family’s grief while ensuring that the cases remain in the public eye. Lazarus has the right touch, a delicate approach to sensitive subject matter.”-Dave Obee, Editor and Publisher, Times Colonist.
“Eve Lazarus has become something of a one-woman clearing house for unsolved murders,” writes the North Shore News. “Cold Case BC puts fresh air into more than a dozen cases that left investigators stumped. But Lazarus offers a more humane touch than most in a true-crime obsessed culture.”
“Cold Case BC offers a deep dive into some of the most puzzling crimes the province has seen, and any true crime lover is sure to lose themselves in all the details – and perhaps look at the BC cities they call home in a whole new light”-BC Review
“Eve’s work stands out from the rest thanks to her in depth research, context-setting, and the time she spends with the family and friends of the victims,” writes the True Crime Files. “As a result the reader gets the rare opportunity to know the person behind the headlines as well as how their disappearance or murder impacted their loved ones and their community. Ultimately, Eve breathes new life into cold cases, reviving them and keeping memories and hope alive.”
