Prince George’s Missing and Murdered

A page that lists and honours the missing people of Prince George, BC and for all those who were murdered and have not received justice

The List:

I wrote a lot about Prince George in my book Cold Case BC: The Stories Behind the Province’s Most Intriguing Murder and Missing Person Cases. When I looked at where my audience comes from on my FB page of the same name, I was surprised to see that the largest number of followers comes from Prince George at 17%, ahead of Vancouver, Kamloops, Surrey, Victoria and Edmonton.

So, when a reader wrote to me this week with a post about a missing woman from the area and said: “I beg you to produce a full list because I believe there is a huge problem in that area. Please help draw attention to the problem,” I thought that it was a good idea.

If you know of someone who went missing from Prince George before 2023 or is a victim of an unsolved murder that happened before 2023 and who is not on this list, please send me an email at eve@evelazarus.com

This is an excerpt from my book Cold Case BC. It’s from Chapter 10: The Jack Family: Missing from Prince George.

While the population of Prince George is less than 100,000, it is by far the biggest city in Northern BC and attracts people looking for work, studying at the University of Northern BC, and trying to step out of poverty to seek the type of medical, educational, or financial services not available in smaller communities. It is also the meeting place for two notorious highways: the 724-kilometre stretch of Highway 16 that cuts through resource towns and wilderness between Prince Rupert and Prince George and is known around the world as the Highway of Tears, and Highway 97, which runs north from the Yukon to Dawson Creek, then southwest through the Okanagan to the US border. The two highways bisect the province and meet at Prince George, which is located on the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.

In 2012, for the third year in a row, Prince George claimed the number one spot on Maclean’s magazine’s list of the most dangerous cities in Canada. Prince George topped the list due to its gang wars, drug abuse, murder rate (the highest per capita in Canada), and being home to the country’s youngest convicted serial killer-a good-looking, athletic, and popular young man who murdered three women and a 15-year-old girl.

That a killer preyed on vulnerable Indigenous women in Prince George is unfortunately no surprise; that he was caught and convicted was. In the years since, Prince George has dropped in the Maclean’s rankings, though it still places among the top 20 most violent cities in the country.

“Prince George is a small community and look at all the shit that is happening here,” says Ceoral Andrist, former PG social worker. “Isn’t that the bigger story? What the hell is going on here?”

Profiles:

Edward Kenneth Grant, 59

Last seen around 11:30 am on September 22, 2019 at Exploration Place in Prince George. Madison Morey says Grant was her elementary school teacher. “He was very loved, a gentle soul and deserves to be brought home,” she says.
